Butcher Blue Makes It Three From Four For Steve O'Dea

Sep 22, 2016

Butcher Blue made a name for himself as a serious town horse with a dominant win at Doomben Racecourse on Wednesday. Aquis Farm trainer Steve O'Dea placed Butcher Blue perfectly in a Class 4 over 1650m, whereby he was allocated the relatively light weight of 55.5kg.

Coming off the back of a win together at the Sunshine Coast, Butcher Blue and jockey Paul Hammersley flew out of barrier two to take the lead on the Heavy 8 track. Comfortably leading, Butcher Blue continued to find more when asked by Hammersley, as he kicked off around the bend. He won strongly with his ears pricked and a 1.3L margin. This win makes it three wins from four starts under Steve O’Dea, and interestingly, Butcher Blue had not raced for one year and seven months before this preparation.

O'Dea will now look at running Butcher Blue in either another midweek metropolitan race or potentially even a Saturday metropolitan race.
