Candika scores on debut

Nov 07, 2015

Candika made an impressive debut last weekend, with a solid win in the QTIS Two Year Old Filles Handicap over 1050m at Doomben.

Jumping from barrier three, the Sebring filly didn't look to be travelling well in the early stages of the race but when asked for an effort by jockey Robbie Fradd, she knucked down and kicked strongly.  She rallied through on the inside to run down eventual runners up Rainy Day Woman and Happy Event.

Purchased by Proven Thoroughbreds at the Magic Millions sale in January for $100,000, Candika picked up just over $41,000 for her connections.  Trainer Steven O'Dea was impressed with the win and may now look at aiming her towards the Magic Millions Two Year Old Classic early next year.
