Manicero returns to the winners stall

Oct 24, 2014

Manicero bought up a double for trainer Steven O'Dea yesterday with a win in the Benchmark 75 Handicap over 1800m at the Sunshine Coast.

Having his first ever ride at the Sunshine Coast, apprentice Matthew McGillivray produced a lovely, patient ride aboard the seven year old.  He enjoyed a good run just off the speed and despite being held up momentarily in the straight, McGillivray never panicked. When the gap appeared he guided him through and Manicero pulled away to score by half a length over the fast finishing Surface Tension.

It was win number seven for the Fastnet Rock gelding.  He was originally trained in Melbourne by Mick Price before coming to Steven O'Dea as a lightly raced four year old.  Since being under the care of O'Dea he has recorded six wins and thirteen placings and has now collected over $145,000 in total.
