A sentimental victory for Katy's Son

Oct 23, 2014

The O'Dea stable continued their winning streak yesterday when first starter, Katy's Son scored an impressive victory in the QTIS three year old Maiden over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast.

It was a special win for Steven O'Dea as Katy's Son is the first foal from his former galloper Kiss Me Katy.  Kiss Me Katy provided O'Dea with his first Brisbane winner back in 2009.   She then went on to win the Listed Sir Douglas Wadley at Eagle Farm before making the trip to Sydney where she was placed in the Group Three San Domenico at Royal Randwick.

Katy's Son had not trialled before yesterday's run but had showed O'Dea enough at home to suggest he was ready to race and capable of winning.  He was slow into stride and despite being checked at the 700m he was able to win comfortably by one and half lengths.

O'Dea will now look to a Metropolitan race for Katy's Son's next assignment.

Kiss Me Katy has since produced a yearling filly by Sebring and most recently a filly by star sprinter Dream Ahead.
