Record season for the O'Dea stable

Aug 03, 2014

As the new racing season begins, the Steven O’Dea stable can now reflect on what has been their best season to date.

Despite only having a small team, with no more than twenty horses in work at a time, O’Dea managed to secure seventh spot on the Brisbane Metropolitan Premiership.  With nineteen winners from one hundred runners, he finished the season with the best strike rate of any trainer in the top twenty.

The highlight, without a doubt, was the win by Sir Moments in the Group Two Queensland Guineas.  Not only did it provide O’Dea with his first group winner, but the win was for one of his major supporters in Proven Thoroughbreds, run by Jamie Walter.  It came the day after Walter had attended the funeral of his late brother Guy making it a very emotional victory for all involved.

Premier rider Timothy Bell has also combined for several wins with the stable, including three aboard Sir Moments, and they were thrilled to see him take out his first Brisbane Jockey’s Premiership.

O’Dea is grateful for all of the support he has received from his owners and his hardworking staff and they look forward to a bigger and better year ahead.
