Heart Smart breaks through

Jul 04, 2014

Talented three year old Heart Smart broke his maiden status on Wednesday, with an impressive win over 1100m at Doomben.

Jumping from the inside barrier, Heart Smart was allowed to settle in behind the leaders but the race wasn't run to suit him. The speed slowed dramatically in front and he begn to overrace, causing him to be shuffled back to last.  He had a big job ahead of him on turning but was too classy for the rest of the field and pulled away to score easily by a length.

It was a deserved win for the Show A Heart gelding who has always shown plenty of ability and until Wednesday had been placed in all three of his starts.

Trainer Steven O'Dea was very pleased to get the win on the board and believes there's still plenty of improvement to come.  "He did do a few things wrong, he wanted to overrace again and before the race he was very fired up" he stated.   "We'll just have to work on getting him to settle", he added.
