Sir Moments bounces back to his best

May 05, 2014

Sir Moments looks to be one of the main contenders amongst the three year olds heading into this year's Brisbane Winter Carnival, after scoring an impressive first up win in the opening race of Saturday's Prime Minister's Cup meeting at the Gold Coast.

The three year old has always shown plenty of ability and he put the writing on the wall with back to back wins as a two year old, taking out the Listed Darello and Phoenix Stakes last season.

Trainer Steven O'Dea elected to bypass the the Group Three Gold Coast Guineas over 1200m on Saturday in favour for the Benchmark 85 Handicap over the same distance and it proved to be a wise move with the gelding winning easily, beating the interstate visitor Monbazillac by one and a half lengths.

O'Dea won't be steering away from anymore black type races though, with the Group Three Fred Best Classic over 1350m in a fortnight his next assignment followed by the Group Two Queensland Guineas over 1400m two weeks later.
