Tips N Tales too strong at Eagle Farm
Mar 25, 2014
Tips N Tales recorded her first metropolitan victory on Saturday, taking out the Coke Zero Benchmark 75 Handicap over 2103m at Eagle Farm.
The outside barrier proved no obstacle for the four year old mare who was given a perfect ride by apprentice Priscilla Schmidt. Schmidt restrained Tips N Tales at the beginning and allowed her to slide across to the fence and travel comfortably near the rear of the field.
On straightening she weaved through the field and once in the clear Tip N Tales sprinted quickly to go past eventual runner up Coworth Park.
Trainer Steven O'Dea was confident going into the race as he believed this was the distance the Tale of the Cat mare was looking for. After being harshly weigthed in easier races O'Dea decided to step her up out of class to find some weight relief. He then engaged Schmidt who still claims 2kgs and it proved to be a wise move as with only 52kg on her back she was able to produce her best.
