Empress Me back in the winner's circle at the Gold Coast

May 25, 2013

A terrific finishing burst has put Empress Me back on the winner’s list in the Pinkenba Hotel Class 3 Hotel (1400m) at the Gold Coast.

Empress Me last win at Eagle Farm in January 2012 but the daughter of Jet Spur showed she was back to her best with her third-up win.

The mare worked up to her success with solid efforts at Eagle Farm and the Sunshine Coast in the lead-up to her success with the step to 1400 metres also playing a part.

Empress Me had previously performed well at the trip with placings at Eagle Farm and Doomben at two of her previous forays into the distance range.

Priscilla Schmidt had her first ride on Empress Me at the Gold Coast and combined well with her mount with the pair travelling comfortably on the rail while a decent pace prevailed up front.

Schmidt decided against taking Empress Me wide to make her run from the 600 metres with the move paying off as the talented galloper was able to make ground quickly rounding the home turn to be in touch with the front-runners at the 250 metres.

Empress Me hit the front 200 metres out before staving off the challenge of the runner-up Final Impression to win by a head.

Empress Me’s win was her third from 19 starts while the $7800 first prizemoney took her stakes tally to $99,950.

Congratulations to Empress Me’s owners - Proven Thoroughbreds Synd (Mgr A Walter), Niugini Racing Synd (Mgr R Allport), A Fong, D Minton, S Roberts, C Boyd, M McKew, G Tiffen, D Sampson & W King.
